The doctoral dissertation Lexical Blends in Contemporary English and Serbian: Structural,Semantic, and Sociolinguistic Aspects aims at contrasting lexical blends in two languages.Specifically, it qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes, first individually and then in contrast,certain formal, semantic, and sociolinguistics aspects of blends from the two typologicallydifferent languages, with the aim of determining their similarities and differences. The datainclude 800 blends (400 blends from each language). The blends are collected from both writtenand spoken language sources and from four different sociolinguistic registers (100 blends perregister), namely the register of advertising, newspaper and magazine register, onlinecommunication register, and the register of literature and art.The analyses have shown that there are very similar general tendencies in the formation ofEnglish and Serbian blends, in terms of the most productive blending mechanism, the percentageof phonemic-graphemic overlap, the phonemic and graphemic similarities between the sourcewords as well as between each source word and the blend, the (most frequent) morphosyntacticclasses the blends belong to, their relative semantic transparency, as well as morphosyntactic andsemantic headedness. The differences in the structure and semantics between the English andSerbian blends are primarily perceived at the register level and in the number of hybrid (English-Serbian) examples.The research results suggest that contemporary Serbian, which is believed to have borrowedthe structural pattern of blending from English in the context of favorable social circumstancesand intensive language contact, does not fall behind English with its structural and semanticrepertoire of blends, most of which are formed using native source words.

Doktorska disertacija Leksičke slivenice u savremenom engleskom i srpskom jeziku:strukturni, sadržinski i sociolingvistički aspekti ima za cilj kontrastiranjeleksičkih slivenica u dvama jezicima. U radu se kvalitativno i kvantitativnoanaliziraju, najpre individualno, a zatim i u kontrastu, određeni formalni, semantičkii sociolingvistički aspekti slivenica iz dva tipološki različita jezika, a sve u ciljuutvrđivanja njihovih sličnosti i razlika. Istraživačku građu čini 800 slivenica, 400iz srpskog i isto toliko iz engleskog jezika zabeleženih u pisanim i usmenim izvorima,i to po 100 primera iz četiri sociolingvistička registra – reklamnog, registra novinai časopisa, registra onlajn komunikacije i književno-umetničkog registra.Formalna, semantička i sociolingvistička analiza engleskih i srpskih slivenicapokazala je da u njihovoj tvorbi postoje vrlo slične opšte tendencije, u smislunajproduktivnijeg mehanizma leksičkog slivanja, udela fonemsko-grafemskogpreklapanja, fonemske i grafemske sličnosti između motivnih reči, odnosnopojedinačnih motivnih reči sa slivenicom, kategorija vrsta reči kojima slivenice(najčešće) pripadaju, relativne semantičke prozirnosti, gramatičke, kao i semantičkecentričnosti slivenica. Razlike u strukturi i sadržini između analiziranih engleskihi srpskih slivenica zabeležene su, pre svega, na međuregistarskom nivou, kao i u brojumeđujezičkih slivenica.Iz rezultata ovih analiza može se zaključiti i to da savremeni srpski jezik, za kojise veruje da je tvorbeni postupak slivanja preuzeo iz engleskog jezika u kontekstupovoljnih društvenih uslova i sve intenzivnijih englesko-srpskih međujezičkihkontakata, ne zaostaje za njim u strukturnoj i semantičkoj raznovrsnosti slivenica, odkojih je većina tvorena od domaćeg leksičkog materijala.
