The view of the German colonial conquest and the ways of implementing colonialrule in the former German South-West Africa (now Namibia) will be analyzed in the doctoraldissertation Colonial conquest of Namibia and the politics of memory in the contemporaryGerman novel. The research corpus consists of three novels written in German between 1978and 2003 – Morenga (Morenga, 1978) by Uwe Timm, Silent Fires. A novel of the Hereropeople (Die schweigenden Feuer. Roman der Herero, 1994) by Giselher V. Hoffman andHerero (Herero, 2003) by Gerhard Seyfried. The focus of the selected novels is the literaryreconstruction of the Germans and Herero/Nama conflict at Waterberg, Namibia, which is theevent that represents the culmination point in the relationship between the colonizer and thecolonized. This conflict resulted in practically complete extermination of the indigenous peopleHerero, Nama, Damara, and San. German public speaks critically about this event a centurylater, recognizing publicly in 2021 that the genocide was committed against the up-mentionedpeople.Following the views of (post)colonial studies theorists and referring to thedevelopment and perspectives of the still young discipline of German (post)colonial study, thisdoctoral dissertation will try to indicate the literary contribution of confrontation to the Germancolonization practice and its manifested mechanisms on the soil of today's Namibia. Thedissertation will also include the view of development of the racist thought in Germany fromthe beginning of imperial aspirations to African soil up to today time and will indicate the(im)possibility of achieving (post)colonial dialogue between Germany and Namibia. Since theselected novels for analysis are contemporary and the history within them is literally processed,the dissertation will also rely on historiographical theories metafiction and new historicism.The aim of the dissertation will be to present the state of (post)colonial Germanstudies, its starting points and perspectives, as well as a presentation of current research resultswhich lead to the establishment of a new memory culture of the German colonial past.Emphasizing the importance of dealing with the repressed German colonial past represents ashift from Eurocentrism to an attempt to "enlighten" Africa, which, as the research results of(post)colonial studies show, is still seen as “black” continent, as a construct perceived as anideological counterbalance to the West and as a justification for both colonial and (post)- andneo-colonial ventures currents. By analyzing the contemporary German novel in which this partof the German colonial history is thematized, this doctoral dissertation is to search the images ofAfrica/Africans, depictions of colonial practices of crimes of genocidal character as definedpoints of the German national plan empire, as well as the discovery of the mechanisms thatmade the crimes possible and which relativized the guilt and responsibility of the Germans forthat act.

U doktorskoj disertaciji Kolonijalno osvajanje Namibije i politika sećanjau savremenom nemačkom romanu biće analiziran prikaz nemačkog kolonijalnog osvajanja inačina sprovođenja kolonijalne vlasti u nekadašnjoj Nemačkoj jugozapadnoj Africi(današnja Namibija) u savremenom nemačkom romanu. Istraživački korpus čine triromana napisana na nemačkom jeziku u periodu između 1978. godine i 2003. godine –Morenga (Morenga, 1978) Uvea Tima, Tihe vatre. Roman Herero naroda (Die schweigendenFeuer Roman der Herero, 1994) Gizelhera V. Hofmana i Herero (Herero, 2003) GerhardaSejfrida. Težište odabranih romana predstavlja književna rekonstrukcija sukobaNemaca i Herera/Nama kod Vaterberga, Namibija, što je događaj koji predstavlja tačkukulminacije u odnosu između kolonizatora i kolonizovanog. Ovaj sukob je rezultiraoskoro potpunim istrebljenjem domorodačkih naroda Herero, Nama, Damara i San o čemunemačka javnost kritički progovara tek jedan vek kasnije javnim priznavanjem iz 2021.godine da je nad pomenutim narodima izvršen genocid.Sledeći stavove teoretičara (post)kolonijalnih studija, sa posebnim osvrtomna razvoj i perspektive još uvek mlade discipline germanističkih (post)kolonijalnihstudija, ova doktorska disertacija će nastojati da ukaže na književni doprinoskonfrontaciji sa nemačkom kolonizatorskom praksom i njenim mehanizmima ispoljenimna tlu današnje Namibije. Disertacija će uključivati i prikaz razvoja rasističke misliu Nemačkoj od začetaka imperijalnih stremljenja ka afričkom tlu do današnjeg vremena iukazaće na (ne)mogućnost ostvarivanja (post)kolonijalnog dijaloga između Nemačke iNamibije. S obzirom na to da su romani odabrani za analizu savremeni i da je istorijaunutar njih literarno obrađena, disertacija će se osloniti i na teorije istoriografskemetafikcije i novog istoricizma.Cilj disertacije će biti prikaz stanja (post)kolonijalne germanistike,njenih polaznih tačaka i perspektiva, kao i prikaz aktuelnih rezultata istraživanjakoja vode ka etabliranju nove kulture sećanja na nemačku kolonijalnu prošlost.Isticanje važnosti bavljenja potisnutom nemačkom kolonijalnom prošlošćupredstavlja pomak iz evrocentrizma ka pokušaju „rasvetljavanja“ Afrike koja se, kakorezultati istraživanja (post)kolonijalnih studija pokazuju, i danas posmatra kao crnikontinent, kao konstrukt koji se doživljava kao ideološka protivteža Zapadu služiiznova kao opravdanje kako kolonijalnim poduhvatima, tako i (post)- i neokolonijalnimstrujanjima. Pred ovu doktorsku disertaciju postavljen je zahtev da se analizomsavremenog nemačkog romana u okviru kog se tematizuje ovaj deo nemačke kolonijalneistorije istraže slike Afrike/Afrikanaca, prikazi načina sprovođenja kolonijalnihzločina genocidalnog karaktera kao zacrtanih tačaka nacionalnog plana Nemačkogcarstva, kao i otkrivanje mehanizama koji su ga omogućili i koji su relativizovalikrivicu i odgovornost Nemaca za taj čin.
